Gestures is an experiment in timbre and texture. The piece is open score; it can be performed by 4 or more musicians (Although, the more the merrier!) and any combination of instruments. As the name implies, the performers are presented with a series of musical gestures: shapes such as flowing lines, sustained pitches, abrupt leaps, etc. set in specified ranges for their instrument and specific articulations such as smooth legatos or jagged staccatos. These gestures are combined and developed throughout the piece.
