'Tis is the season! For academic job interviews and job talks.
As part of the Job Market Talks, we created an open space for people on the job market to practise their pitches and get useful feedback to make their presentation even more successful.
A high quality job talk is exceedingly important in the process of finding a good job. The only sure way to achieve that is:
1. attend as many job talks as you can
2. get used to practicing your critcal skills!! Pay attention to the talks and try to understand what makes them effective/boring/engaging/impossible-to-follow etc.
3. Show up for practices like this and give constructive and polite but brutally honest feedback. This is not the time to play nice: people practicing their job talks desperately need to identify mistakes/weaknesses so they can improve. Don't hold back your criticism.
4. Repeat
Practice makes perfect!
We'll be meeting on Zoom: check the Slack channel #job-market-seminars for the link!
If you want to participate and practice your very own job talk, please fill up your details in this Google form below and you’ll hear back from us soon.
