JOAQUIN FARINA

I am an incoming Ph.D. student at Harvard Graduate School of Education, specializing in the economics of education. My research mostly employs methodologies from development microeconomics and data science. I currently hold positions at UNESCO and the Chilean Institute of Education.

My interests include program and policy evaluation in developing contexts, economics of expectations, and data-driven decision-making. I aim for my work to be grounded in economic theory, and I love exploiting (still) underutilized sources of data (e.g. text, images, networks) through innovative analytical approaches.

Before delving into full-time research, I served as a Senior Policy Analyst and an Education Data Specialist at the Chilean Ministry of Education. I have also contributed as a Consultant in the Poverty and Equity Global Practice at The World Bank.

Previously, I undertook the Enseña Chile Fellowship (Teach For All partner), successfully working as a full-time math teacher in low-income schools for two years.
