Getting a group of people with diverse backgrounds and points of view in the same room always produces good outcomes if activities are well-planned and purposeful. Design sprints are a great way to open teams up to new ideas, get them unstuck, and build team focus and consensus. With structured, time-boxed activities, teams learn to diverge through brainstorming and converge through decision-making.
I've facilitated many design sprints and smaller design brainstorming, visioning, and design review workshops throughout my career. It's a highlight of my work, and I enjoy creating a safe space for teams to be creative and think outside the box.
I've had the opportunity to teach Active Listening and User Interviewing at Mathworks to internal employees. These workshops were popular. My colleague Michelle Erickson and I developed a workshop that we gave several times to a broader audience outside of Mathworks including a workshop at UXPA International in London in 2014.
As a Principal UX Specialist at Mathworks, I was responsible for coordinating a company-wide design workshop and review process for new applications. One goal of these sessions was to help teams acquire design skills and learn Design Standards and Best Practices.
I conducted workshops
I coached development teams to present designs and use an ICN framework to make the most of the feedback they were given.
I coordinated the schedule for the reviews making sure that reviewers were on hand
I mentored more junior member of the UX team to learn good practices and give them opportunities to present their designs.
