My wife and I bought our home in Jackson Oaks in 2001 and are raising three sons (and a parrot) here. My commute takes me an hour north weekdays, and the association is generally far from my mind most of the time; I applaud the spirit of volunteerism that keeps our HOA dues low and the pool running. I haven't always been active in HOA affairs, but I've been paying closer attention since the elections and ensuing drama over the last year.
Our association should be inclusive, and voting for directors who'll represent me - represent you! - in all board decisions is really the most fundamental right that we have to ensure that happens. When the new board proposed doing away with the voting system we all agreed to use when we bought property here, it struck me as terribly wrong: destructive to homeowner value, needlessly divisive, and maybe even a bit spiteful.
None of the reasons the board has put forward persuade me that voting or the neighborly dynamic in Jackson Oaks will be better after changing the rules - in fact, quite the opposite.
