I am a financial economist, researcher and consultant. I have expertise in entrepreneurial finance where my research has focused on the impact of venture capital, private equity and government grant funding on firm success and innovation. I have undertaken funded research to support policy development and change initiatives for the Australian Investment Council (formerly the Australian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association), Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC), Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (Aus) and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (NSW).
I am a recipient of the AVCAL research prize and Coller Institute of Venture Research Awards Grand prize. I have won competitive grant funding from the ARC (Discovery and Linkage Grant in conjunction with the Australian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association) and the Centre for International Finance and Regulation.
I have been a director on the board of the Asian Finance association since 2010 and organize and host a bi-annual online workshop on venture capital and private equity in in the Asia Pacific region, which attracts global academic and industry participants.
My additional research interests include capital raising in debt and equity markets, corporate governance and Chinese financial markets. I have published widely in international journals, am an editorial board member of the Australian Journal of Management and present regularly at Australian and international conferences.
I hold a PhD in Finance from UNSW. I was previously an Associate Professor at UNSW and have held visiting positions at University of British Columbia, Canada and Singapore Management University. I am currently an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University of Technology.
I sit on the executive committee of Sydney Angels and am an active angel investor. I am involved in the start-up ecosystem and am a start-up mentor at the Founder Institute.
