Soft matter includes a various range of materials including polymers, colloids, and liquid crystals. Typically, soft matter exhibits two key characteristics. (1) large and nonlinear response. Soft matter is easily deformed or structurally altered due to weak external stimuli. Such large responses show nonlinear behaviors beyond linear response theory. (2) slow and non-equilibrium response. The relaxation dynamics of soft matter is much slower than that of simple liquids. Consequently, soft matter is in non-equilibrium states and shows unexpected properties beyond equilibrium thermodynamics. Our group aim to understand non-equilibrium phenomena in soft matter and develop non-equilibrium theories for soft matter. We explore universal behaviors in soft matter by studying various soft matters, including polymers and colloidal gels, through computer simulations.Â
