METRODUKES SCHOLARSHIP
METRODUKES SCHOLARSHIP
We actively fundraise for our chapter's endowed scholarship, which we award to 1-2 student(s) from the DMV annually.
Check out what some of our recent recipients are up to while at JMU and beyond!
“The opportunities available to me in the Anthropology department and the Pre-Law track were what initially drew me to JMU. Unfortunately, as an out-of-state student from Maryland, the cost of all these opportunities was incredibly daunting for me. The MetroDukes scholarship helped relieve some of this financial burden, which has not only allowed me to continue my education at JMU, but also will be a great help towards my goal of attending law school.
At JMU, I have been able to join the Honors College, the Individual Events (Speech) team, the professional pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, and take advantage of all of the other opportunities and facilities around me, such as UREC. I would like to thank all of the current and future donors who have contributed to this scholarship and helped me make the most of my education.”
“The MetroDukes scholarship financially helped me actually be able to go to JMU for undergrad. Like most high school students, I was looking at a few different schools and one of the most important factors in my decision-making process was tuition. With the very generous scholarship from MetroDukes, it made my choice to go to JMU -my dream school- so much easier because I knew it was the best choice not only for a multitude of other reasons, but also financially.
Since graduating from JMU in 2019, I’ve been attending the University of Richmond School of Law where I’m in my final semester and I graduate in May! I want to practice environmental law and recently completed an honors clerkship with the Environmental Protection Agency where I hope to also work after graduation.”
“Receiving the MetroDukes scholarship was the final push I needed to make JMU my home. I remember being a senior in high school and going on numerous college tours and nothing really felt special. Until I got to Harrisonburg. The campus was great, the people were wonderful, there were the most beautiful sunsets and I just felt like I was home.
While at JMU, I was a member of the varsity cheerleading team. I was the first class that got to cheer all 4 years in the expanded stadium, and wow that was so much fun! Saturdays in the fall were the best because the atmosphere on Game Day was always second to none. But my most cherished memory is winning NCA College Cheerleading Nationals in Daytona Beach.
I graduated in December 2014 with a degree in Health Sciences, Pre-Med. I am currently a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Inova Fairfax Hospital, as well as a cheer coach at Tuscarora High School. Since leaving JMU, I have been a proud Duke Club member and return to campus frequently. I am beyond excited for our move to the Sun Belt!"
