📌 Round Table on "Decentring ELT" on Thursday, 10.11.2022 at 12.00 noon
One day Round Table discussion was organised, on the topic "Decentring ELT, here at J. M. Patel College, Bhandara in association with Centre for English Language Education, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi on Thursday, 10.11.2022. Dr. Karthik Panicker, Head, Department of English, delivered introductory remarks. The session was conducted, by Dr. Amol Padwad, Director, Centre for English Language Education, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi, on the basis of questionnaire. The discussion began with the formal introduction of the participants. During the session, the participants shared their personal understandings of decentring ELT and discussed its relevance or otherwise to their own professional contexts. The question of methods used in classroom teaching is discussed at length.
Themes discussed included multiple and diverse understandings of the centre and of decentring, insights from local decentring practices, the place of the local in promoting decentring, and contextual (including political and ideological) features shaping centring or decentring. A key point emerging was that, although formulating a comprehensive, widely applicable definition of decentring is difficult, it can be characterized as involving a focus on local solutions and attempts to counter hegemonic/discriminatory practices. The discussion was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Umesh Bansod. Dr. Ajay Deokate, Shri Bhojraj Shrirame, Dr. Bhavana Rai & Ms. Prachi Randive worked hard for the success of the programme.
