About Me

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here!

My name is Joy, and I am from Tomball, Texas. I attended Sam Houston State University where I majored in education, with a specialization in 4-8th grade English, Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies.

I taught 7th and 8th grade language arts and social studies for 8 wonderful years in Tomball ISD, where I had proven success in helping students master the TEKS, addressing learners' social/emotional needs, creating a safe and fun learning environment, and designing and implementing engaging instruction.

I have always had a passion for reading, and often used books as a way to connect with students, so I decided to get my master's degree in library science to combine my two passions: teaching and reading. I attended Sam Houston State University for my master's program, where I learned the skill necessary to turn my love of reading into a career as a school librarian.

I have spent the last year creating a school library program- from scratch- in Waller ISD that is safe, inclusive, diverse, and FUN! I aim to foster a love of reading and learning in students by creating a space that encourages creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and reading for pleasure.

Please take a look around to learn more about my vision as a school librarian, and to see samples of my work.

Educational Philosophy

All students are unique, and all students can succeed. It is my job as an educator to meet each students' individual needs and guide them to become an active participant in their own learning process. By creating a learning environment that fosters collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, I can empower students to become lifelong learners and ethical users of information.

Mission Statement

The school library's mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, 21st-century learning environment to meet the information needs of students and educators, to teach students to be ethical users of information, and to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Vision Statement

The library will empower students to develop 21st-century learning skills, enable our students to become seekers of ideas and information, will help nurture a love of reading, and will encourage a desire for lifelong learning.
