José Liñares-Zegarra


I am a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Finance at Essex Business School (UK). I am also an affiliated researcher at the Centre for Responsible Banking & Finance (CRBF) and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of St Andrews (Scotland). Previously, I held visiting teaching/research positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, University of Alicante, University of Illinois, Florida State University and the Institute of European Finance (Bangor University).

My academic career combines both teaching and research in economics, banking and finance. I have been researcher for the Spanish Savings Banks Foundation and have also participated in projects related to the banking industry for the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Andalusian Autonomous Government and several financial institutions. My research interests focus on banking, financial technology (FinTech) and entrepreneurship. My research has been published in journals such as the British Journal of Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, European Journal of Finance, Journal of Banking & Finance, Regional Studies, Journal of Financial Services Research, Review of Network Economics, Small Business Economics, Social Science and Medicine, British Accounting Review and Economic Letters.
