I am a lead economist at Banco de Portugal, working in the Monetary Policy Division of the Economics and Research Department. I am also an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Nova SBE, currently teaching Macroeconomic Principles.
My research interests range between monetary and fiscal policies, with a particular focus on implications for the central bank's balance sheet and public debt management.
In the past I worked several years at IGCP (the Portuguese Treasury and Debt Management Agency), heading the Research and Reporting Unit between 2011 and 2018. In that role I worked in close relation with the Ministry of Finance and international institutions, including rating agencies and institutional investors, but also with the IMF and EU institutions during the EU-IMF 2011-2014 adjustment programme and subsequent surveillance period.
I received a PhD from Nova SBE in 2010, with a dissertation on Optimal Public Debt Management, after concluding an MSc at the LSE in 2001 and undergraduate studies in Coimbra in 2000.
