Ballet Folklorico de James Logan High School

El Ballet Folklorico de JLHS

El Ballet Folklorico de James Logan High School was founded in 1990 by former guidance counselor, Jaime Huertas. The group was started by a group of students interested in learning dances to perform at an annual assembly and it has evolved into a performing company. The company is known for performing at various community events, festivals, and alongside other well known companies. In May 2017, Mr. Huertas passed on the group to then Assistant Director Lisa Moreno and former Logan dancer, Claudia Rodriguez. The group is now under the direction of Martha Alvarez, who will strive to continue the legacy of the group.

About Us

Martha Alvarez - Director

Martha began her dance journey at the age of 12 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Union City, CA. When entering high school, she joined the Ballet Folklorico de JLHS under the direction of Jaime Huertas, where she spent four years dancing. (Fun fact: She even performed during the Mi Pueblo competition in 2015 with the group)

After graduating from Logan in 2015, Martha attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she danced with Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas de UCSC for four years. During this time, she was a member of the groups core, taught, and choreographed various regions to the group in preparation for their Spring Show.

Since graduating from UCSC, she has performed with the Ballet Folklorico de Carlos Moreno in Oakland, CA and currently directs the Ballet Folklorico de JLHS.
