If you want sweatproof clip on earbuds for hiking with a secure fit that survives the trail, choose JLab JBuds ANC 3; if you need massive battery life and deep bass for long commutes or studio sessions, choose JBL Tune 670NC.
• JLab JBuds ANC 3: The standout strength is its rugged IP55 rating and true wireless design that stays put during movement; the trade-off is shorter single-charge playtime compared to over-ear competitors. This pick is for active users who prioritize durability and portability.
• JBL Tune 670NC: Its biggest advantage is an industry-leading 70-hour battery life and premium on-ear comfort with foldable storage; the compromise is that it lacks an official water resistance rating and sits firmly on the ear rather than inside it. This pick is for listeners who value extended listening sessions and sound depth above all else.
The JLab JBuds ANC 3 is built specifically for people who move. When I look at the specs, the IP55 sweat and dustproof rating immediately tells me this isn't just for sitting in a quiet room. It is engineered to handle rain, heavy sweating during a workout, and the dusty conditions of a hike. The design features rounded tips that sit securely in the ear, which is critical when you are navigating uneven terrain where falling out of your ears would be dangerous or frustrating. Unlike many true wireless earbuds that feel loose after an hour, the JLab build suggests a lightweight construction designed to stay put through long wear sessions without constant adjustment.
For the outdoor enthusiast, the "Be Aware" transparency mode is a vital feature. You can hear ambient noise without taking the buds out, which is essential for safety while hiking near traffic or wildlife. The three noise control modes—ANC On, Be Aware, and ANC Off—give you total command over your environment. If you are climbing a mountain where wind noise might be an issue, switching to ANC Off lets you hear clearly. If you are in a busy city street, the Smart ANC adjusts to cut down the chaos. The inclusion of MEMS mics further sharpens call clarity, ensuring your voice comes through crisp even when the wind picks up.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you require a headphone that lasts for days on a single charge without ever touching a cable, the JLab falls short here. While the case provides a massive 42+ hours of total playtime, the earbuds themselves only deliver 9+ hours per charge. That means if you are planning a multi-day backpacking trip where you cannot access a power source, you will need to manage your charging carefully. If you are someone who needs to grab music for five minutes before heading out the door, you might find the standard charging time less convenient than a model with rapid recharge capabilities.
The JBL Tune 670NC is the champion of endurance and audio immersion. The most striking number in its data sheet is the 70-hour average battery life. This is not a spec you see every day. It suggests that once you charge these headphones, you can go weeks without plugging them into a wall outlet. Whether you are using them for long flights, marathon study sessions, or daily commuting, the anxiety of running out of power is virtually non-existent. The ability to get three additional hours of music from just a 5-minute quick charge adds another layer of reliability for those moments when you forget to plug in overnight.
Sound quality is another reason to choose the JBL. These headphones feature the renowned JBL Pure Bass Sound, utilizing dynamic drivers tuned to deliver the same low-end punch found in major music venues. The on-ear design, paired with soft ear cushions and a padded headband, creates a comfortable seal for extended periods. The flat-folding design makes them incredibly portable, fitting easily into a bag or jacket pocket without the bulk of a hard case. For travelers or commuters who need to store their gear efficiently, this foldable form factor is a practical advantage over the rigid carrying case required by many earbuds.
Transparency is handled differently here but equally effectively. The Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes allow you to hear your surroundings or voices instantly without removing the headphones. This is perfect for urban environments where you need to hear announcements or cross safely. However, the on-ear placement means they do not offer the same level of isolation as in-ear models, nor do they have an official water resistance rating. If you plan to use these for intense cardio or hiking in the rain, the lack of an IP rating is a significant risk. They are designed for comfort and longevity in dry conditions, making them ideal for the office, the road, or home, but perhaps less suitable for extreme weather exposure.
• Best for intense physical activity and rain → JLab JBuds ANC 3: The IP55 rating and secure in-ear fit make it the only logical choice for sweaty workouts or wet trails.
• Best for battery life → JBL Tune 670NC: With 70 hours of playtime, it outlasts almost any competitor in its class, requiring far fewer charges.
• Best for sound depth and bass → JBL Tune 670NC: The JBL Pure Bass technology and larger dynamic drivers provide a richer, more immersive listening experience.
• Best for multipoint connectivity → JLab JBuds ANC 3: Seamlessly switches between two devices like a laptop and phone without re-pairing, ideal for hybrid work setups.
• Best for portability and storage → JBL Tune 670NC: The flat-folding design takes up less space in a bag than the bulky charging case of the earbuds.
• Best for safety awareness → Both: Both offer transparency modes (Be Aware vs. Ambient Aware/TalkThru), but the earbuds offer a more open feel while the headphones keep the ear canal covered.
• Best for call clarity in wind → JLab JBuds ANC 3: MEMS mics are specifically highlighted for sharpening call clarity, which is superior for mobile use.
• Best for quick top-ups → JBL Tune 670NC: A 5-minute charge yields 3 hours of playback, offering a better emergency boost ratio than the JLab.
I would buy the JLab JBuds ANC 3 for my own hiking adventures because the IP55 rating and secure fit are non-negotiable when you are miles from civilization. The ability to withstand sweat and rain ensures I won't have to worry about my gear failing mid-trail. However, for general daily listening, commuting, or long flights where I don't need to worry about weather, the JBL Tune 670NC wins on sheer convenience and battery life. In my opinion, if your primary goal is to take music for hiking, the JLab JBuds ANC 3 is the safer, more robust investment that keeps you moving without interruption.
The JLab JBuds ANC 3 carries an IP55 rating, meaning they are protected against sweat, rain, and dust, making them suitable for wet outdoor conditions. The JBL Tune 670NC does not list an IP rating, so it is not recommended for rain or heavy sweat.
The JBL Tune 670NC offers up to 70 hours of battery life, significantly outperforming the JLab JBuds ANC 3, which provides 9+ hours per earbud and 42+ hours total with the case.
Yes, the JLab JBuds ANC 3 supports Bluetooth Multipoint, allowing connection to two devices at once.
Both products offer customization via their respective apps. The JLab app allows EQ adjustments and touch control remapping, while the JBL Headphones app manages noise cancellation modes and audio profiles.
