Teaching Traditional Shotokan Karate Since 2009
We are still building this site, so more info is coming soon
JKA Clondalkin, locally known as the Clondalkin Shotokan Academy has been in the local community since 2009 when Sensei Robert Preston established his club in the Scouts Hall Watery Lane.
We are South Dublin's only official JKA Shotokan club, directly affiliated to the Japan Karate Association via JKA Ireland with Chief Instructor Noel Casey 7th Dan.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Unlike most other clubs, none of our gradings are completed in-house, all gradings are completed by Sensei Noel Casey, 7th Dan Chief Instructor of Ireland who has a special license from JKA HQ in Tokyo Japan to carry out gradings. No other clubs in the area have that level of quality assurance.
Established in 2009 by Sensei Preston the Clondalkin Shotokan Academy is the only Shotokan karate club in the area directly connected to the original family tree of the Shotokan Karate style, via the Japan Karate Association.
All our grades are accepted and respected all over the world and our Dan Grades are registered and certified in the JKA Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
There is no higher karate achievement than a JKA black belt.
We are now a registered community group with the South Dublin Public Participation Network

Just drop in.
The first class is free for anyone trying Karate for the first time.
So just drop in, give it a go, and if you like it your welcome to come back for another class.
This depends.
Is your grade from the same style?
Some times people come to us from other styles such as Wado Ryu or Tae Kwon Do with a particular belt and ask if they can retain their grade. Unfortunately in these cases, you must begin as a white belt as they are completely different styles.
If you have a Dan grade in Shotokan from another official JKA club, then it's not a problem.
However if the Dan grade is from another Association not recognised by JKA, then re-grading may be required. However this depends on numerous different factors.
Speak to our club Instructor to learn more.
This depends on how serious and dedicated you are.
Starting off, classes are €7 for non-members.
Members get discounted training, and access to monthly & term special offers.
Becoming a member is €25 for the first year, and then changes each ear depending on your grade. Membership fees help us pay our public liability insurance and association fees.
Some expected costs are as follows:
Karate Suit (Lightweight) €20 - €30
Sparing Gloves €15 & Gum Shield from €10
Training is twice per week and there is no requirement to attend both classes.
You can train once or twice per week, the more you train, the more opportunity to improve.
