Gege Akutami (pronounced “geh-geh ah-koo-tah-mee”) is a Japanese manga artist best known as the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen. Akutami began their professional manga career in 2014, contributing short works to Weekly Shōnen Jump before debuting Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical School in 2017 — a one-shot prequel that would later become Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Akutami’s art style and storytelling are often praised for their dark tone, complex characters, and creative use of supernatural themes. Their ability to blend intense action with emotional depth has earned global recognition and positioned Jujutsu Kaisen as one of the most popular modern shōnen series.

Despite their fame, Akutami maintains a low public profile and uses a self-portrait of a faceless cat with a bandaged face during interviews and comment sections in Shōnen Jump.
