Jiseung Kang is an Assistant Professor at the School of Health and Environmental Science at Korea University. Dr. Kang's multidisciplinary research focuses on understanding causality and/or underlying mechanisms of various health outcomes and integrating multiple layers of studies from basic science, translational medicine, RWD/RWE data, medical informatics, global databases, AI foundation model, umbrella meta-analysis, to health system modeling, to suggest for public health decisions.
Our research group leverages cutting-edge healthcare and biomedical big data to address unresolved questions in medical and public health research. We strive to lead the fields of real-world evidence (RWE), real-world data (RWD), and data science, aiming to establish a globally recognized, world-class research center. Our achievements are not only advancing the field within South Korea but also contributing to the global forefront of healthcare and biomedical research.

Various global and nationwide medical big-data [more]
We utilized an extensive array of global and nationwide medical big data, including global datasets (e.g., WHO dataset, GBD dataset), nationwide datasets (e.g., Korea NHIS claims data, Japan NHIS claims data, U.S. All of Us program dataset), as well as various survey-based datasets, modeling studies, and meta-analyses. By integrating these diverse resources, we aim to explore innovative and transformative ideas that advance the frontiers of medical research, address unresolved medical questions, and contribute to public health solutions.
Global collaboration [more]
We have tried to conduct cutting-edge, high-quality research through ongoing collaborations with world-renowned institutions, including Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brown University, MIT, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Washington, University of Southern California, WHO, GBD, GIST, and Kyung Hee Digital Health Center.
World-class achievements [more]
Despite a broad research scope, our team consistently publishes in SCI journals across all areas. Notably, in the field of medical big data, we have achieved publications in the most prestigious high-impact journals such as BMJ, Nature Communications, and eClinicalMedicine.
