Classification of Variable star based on their Photometric Color
Photometric classification of variable stars based on their colors using General Catalogue of Variable Stars (GCVS) ,containing information about 47,000 variable stars, downloaded from vizier was done. The catalogue was used to obtain the RA and DEC of the object in addition to the information on their variability type, period etc. Information on magnitude was obtained from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Using the availed data, colour, which is the difference between magnitudes, was calculated. To check the suitability of colour as a measure for classification of variable stars, colour distribution of different variable star in various colour space were studied using TOPCAT.
