I am a linguistic anthropologist. My  research topics involved Mayan identity, bilingualism and language ideology in Guatemala. I teach liberal arts courses at UNIST, a science and engineering university in Korea where English has been adopted as an official language. While working in UNIST, my work has focused more on sociolinguistic research in Korea, including the topics of language ideology, linguistic landscape and international education. In addition, I have recently been engaged in two areas of inquiry. One line of inquiry involves the media representations of gender and regional identity in Korea; the other is a study on the corporate culture of startup companies.
