Dr. Jinoop Arackal Narayanan is currently serving as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Mechanical Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies, Teesside University, UK, since July 2023. Prior to this role, he held positions as a research fellow in additive manufacturing at the Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre, Cranfield University, UK, from January to June 2023, and as an industrial postdoctoral researcher at the Multi-scale Additive Manufacturing Lab, University of Waterloo, Canada, from 2021 to 2023. He also worked as a DAE Research Fellow at the Laser Additive Manufacturing Laboratory at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore, India from 2016-2021.
Dr. Narayanan earned his PhD in laser additive manufacturing from Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, India. With over seven years of experience in additive manufacturing, his research interests encompass various areas, including metal additive manufacturing, process window development in additive manufacturing, processing of advanced materials, post-processing of metal additive manufactured components, and in-situ and ex-situ material characterizations.
He has more than 90 publications in the field of additive manufacturing, including journal papers in peer-reviewed international journals, book chapters, and international and national conference papers/ presentations. Notably, he authored the first comprehensive textbook on Additive Manufacturing in India, published by McGraw-Hill Higher Education for UG and PG Scholars. Additionally, Dr. Narayanan serves as an editor and reviewer for several reputed international journals.
His contributions to the field have been recognized through various awards and fellowships. In 2019, he was honoured with the "Young Scientist Award in Mechanical Engineering" by the Madhya Pradesh Government. Subsequently, he worked as a Young Scientist Fellow at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Trivandrum, focusing on metal additive manufacturing. He has also been awarded the best Ph.D. Thesis award from the Indian Laser Association, and his works have received best paper and poster awards during national conferences and technical events. Furthermore, he has received fellowships from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
Dr. Narayanan is actively involved in several collaborative projects related to metal additive manufacturing with several international universities, research labs and industries.
