I am Jingyao, and my friends and professors also call me Jennifer. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Associate, awarded the MIT-Novo Nordisk AI Postdoctoral Fellowship (2025 Jan–2027 Jan), and hosted by Prof Rosalind Picard at MIT Media Lab. Prior to this, I’ve had quite a journey across continents.
I was born on February 14th, 1998, a romantic day, in a small city of the northern part of China. At 17, I moved to the southern tip of the world, to the beautiful coastal city of Sydney, Australia, where I began my journey toward becoming an international scholar and researcher.
I received my BE (Hons) degree and graduated with the first class honors in Telecommunication Engineering from the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications in University of New South Wales (UNSW), in 2020. During my undergraduate study, I attended my first international conference, ICASSP2019 in Brighton, UK which inspired and motivated my journey towards a Ph.D degee.
I earned my Ph.D. in Signal Processing in 2024 under the supervision of Associate Professor Vidhyasaharan Sethu, Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah and Dr Ting Dang. During my Ph.D, I have published peer-reviewed papers in ICASSP, Interspeech, ACII and IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing. These publications feature one leading authored paper received the Best Paper Award at ACII2023 and one paper recognised among the notable Top 3% papers at ICASSP2023.
I truly cherish the experiences I’ve had throughout this journey, and I remain open to exploring and embracing new opportunities in the future. I am actively seeking faculty positions—please feel free to reach out!
