Jimmy Graham
Hello, and welcome to my website!
I am a PhD candidate at the Wilf Family Department of Politics at New York University. My research lies at the intersection of international relations, comparative politics, and political behavior, with a focus on political violence. The core of my research agenda is driven by two questions: what drives citizens to support and engage in political violence, and how can political violence be reduced? My dissertation draws on experimental and quasi-experimental methods to examine peacebuilding approaches in South Sudan. The research provides insights on the role of civic education, elite messaging, and group norms in influencing conflict dynamics. My work has been funded by organizations including the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, Innovations for Poverty Action, the Institute for Humane Studies, and United States Institute of Peace.
I hold a Master's in Global Human Development from Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service and a BA in International Studies from the University of South Carolina. Before graduate school at NYU, I worked as a researcher with organizations such as the World Bank and the Center for Global Development. I have conducted field research in South Sudan, Rwanda, Colombia, and Peru, and I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic.
