Sunday
Sunday
several pictures of the stream I was collecting data from
some tracks found 7/21/24. (Figure 1) the second one was probably left by a large dog. probably. the silt bar that the tracks were on was underwater last time I checked, which was about 2 days ago, and after all the erosion of the trails recently, I can't think of anyone who would walk a dog over there. not to mention, I had to climb over several fallen branches to reach the area where the tracks were, so definitely not an ideal dog-walking location
a snake (Figure 2)
7/21's field sketches. the first one is a knotweed sprout near the river, the other is a much quicker sketch of some burrs.
Monday
even quite a few days after the recent flood, you can see the difference in turbidity between the smaller stream and the north branch
a relatively empty ice cube tray
none of these can be used for data, but it's good to know that the stream isn't empty. all of these were found in the span of about 5 minutes (figure 3)
various creatures
Tuesday
it's hard to see in this photo, but something tunneled through here recently (figure 4)
the north branch is much clearer than on Sunday, but there's still quite a visible difference in turbidity
the banks along much of the stream look like this. Roots from adjacent trees and bushes keep everything stable, and mild erosion leads to exposed roots that are partially submerged, making great habitats
