The materials here are for a course I designed at Occidental College: Math 107: Data, Functions, and Graphs. The idea is that many students are coming into college with having seen calculus in high school, but often their precalculus skills are too weak for them to truly understand the concepts of calculus. However, most students are not interested in taking a precalculus class when arriving at college. This course has been designed to cover the traditional concepts in a precalculus course, but also focus on examples from a wide range of disciplines. The course also uses Mathematica to model data sets using linear maps, quadratic maps, and exponential maps.
The videos presented here are actual class recordings. Within the lectures there are "Questions", which are meant to be quick checks for students to make sure they are understanding the concepts, and "Group Work". For group work, the class stops for about 10 minutes while students work in groups to solve the problems while I move around the room answering any questions that arise. The pdf files for group work are also included below. Students are also provided with pdf printouts of the PowerPoint slides in case they wish to take notes during lecture.
