Jim Seebock has served as a Henderson, Nevada, City Councilman for the past three years. Henderson, which includes the historic Water District, is the second-largest city in Nevada and is recognized as one of the safest and most respected places to live in the country. As a member of the city council, he works with the mayor and fellow council members to help create policies and make decisions on issues affecting the local community and its residents.
Before entering public office, Jim spent more than 30 years in law enforcement. Throughout that career, he gained experience leading large organizations and managing responsibilities in high-pressure situations. His professional background includes strategic planning, operational leadership, and organizational development. He focused on improving efficiency, supporting effective teamwork, and helping departments maintain long-term stability and performance.
Seebock's experience also included supervising large-scale security operations, coordinating special events, and overseeing investigations related to public safety and counterterrorism. During his years in law enforcement, he became known for his direct, practical leadership style. He regularly evaluated operational challenges, developed solutions, and encouraged ongoing review and feedback to improve results.
In 2023, Councilman Jim Seebock won Henderson’s first-ever special election for the Ward 1 council seat after completing a three-decade career with the Metropolitan Police Department. His election represented an important event for the city. In 2024, he was reelected and earned endorsements from the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Political Endorsement Committee and the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters.
As part of Jim's role as councilman, he also represents Henderson in several regional organizations. These include the Regional Transportation Commission, the Regional Flood Control organization, and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority. Through these assignments, he helps support decisions on transportation, flood prevention, and housing throughout Southern Nevada.
Seebock began his career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1993. Over more than 30 years with the department, he held many positions and leadership assignments. His roles included Patrol Officer, Narcotics Detective, K9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Counterterrorism Lieutenant, and Captain.
As a captain, Jim supervised several major operational divisions. One of his assignments involved leading the Organizational Development Bureau. In that role, he oversaw training for approximately 5,000 department members. His duties included supervision of the Police Academy, field training operations, advanced tactical instruction, and use-of-force review processes.
Seebock later served as Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center. In this position, he coordinated intelligence and operational efforts among more than 20 local, state, and federal agencies. He also supervised grant programs and managed counterterrorism and crime analysis initiatives designed to strengthen regional public safety efforts.
Another important assignment involved leading the SWAT Bureau. During this period, he directed tactical operations related to barricade and hostage incidents while supervising specialized teams, including crisis negotiators and homeland security units. He maintained responsibility for operational decisions during critical incidents and emergencies.
In 2020, Jim was promoted to Deputy Chief. During this assignment, he supervised the Community Policing, Tourist Safety, and Detention Services Divisions. His responsibilities included operations connected to the Las Vegas Strip, major public events, detention facilities, and broader public safety programs across the department.
In 2022, Jim was promoted to Assistant Sheriff, which is the third-highest rank in the department. In this role, he oversaw all uniformed officers and supported large-scale operational efforts across the agency.
During major emergencies, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department activates a Department Operations Center to coordinate response efforts for situations such as natural disasters, officer-related incidents, and other large-scale emergencies. He was selected several times to lead the operations center, including during the response to the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas mass shooting.
Throughout Jim's law enforcement career, he received several awards and honors for his service. These included the Unit Medal of Valor, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and the Community Service Award. After more than three decades in law enforcement, he retired in July 2023.
While serving with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Seebock continued pursuing higher education and professional development. He earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the College of Southern Nevada. He later completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration with a focus on Law Enforcement from Nevada State College. In addition, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Along with Jim's academic studies, he completed Nevada POST training at the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Management, and Executive levels. He also participated in the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.
His professional training included attendance at the Anti-Defamation League’s Western States Leadership Seminar in Israel. He also completed post-blast investigator training at the FBI training facility, further expanding his experience in emergency response and security operations.
Jim Seebock, Councilman, moved to Henderson with his family in 1986. He grew up with one brother and one sister and attended Burkholder Junior High School before graduating from Basic High School. While he was still attending high school, his father passed away. Following this loss, his mother worked two jobs to support the family, and he accepted additional responsibilities at a young age while helping care for and support his sister.
Seebock met his wife, Barbara, during high school, and they married in 1996. The couple later became parents to boy and girl twins through embryo adoption. As a family, they have enjoyed trips to the beach, visits to Disneyland, and hiking in their community and while traveling.
Their 19-year-old twins currently attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Northern Arizona University. The family attends Central Christian Church, where he has volunteered for more than 30 years. His service there has included involvement in the bookstore, welcome team, guest relations, and small group leadership. He is currently part of the legacy ministry.
Outside of church activities, Jim has volunteered as a youth coach for T-ball, soccer, baseball, and flag football. He has also volunteered and served on the Parks Board and Civil Service Board for the City of Henderson.
His charitable support has included donations to Henderson Little League, Foothill High School Theater, Foothill High School Band, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and Central Christian Church. Over the years, through public service, volunteer work, and leadership, Jim Seebock has remained dedicated to supporting the Henderson community and its residents.
