Women in CS
I believe computer science is for everyone. I served in leadership in the Women in Computer Science organization at UIC for several years of my graduate career. As President, I expanded the organization to include more officers, and we put on events for career preparation and student success. I went with undergraduate students to Grace Hopper. I attended outreach events at high schools and at the Association for Women in Science. In partnership with UIC Women in Science, I spoke to high school and elementary students in the EVL. I spoke on a panel at a Chicago Grace Hopper meet-up. I created a program to connect undergraduates with graduate students, to create and complete research projects. We worked with the department to create a student space for WiCS in the CS computing lounge.
I have received the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship from Google and the UIC student service award, in recognition of my passion and work in this area.
