Family Shrine (2023). Ink on hanji paper scrolls.
This project began as a form of self-discovery, reconciling my disparate identities through the lens of heritage and family.
It was during a visit to the North and South Korean border when I was struck with the realisation that focusing on our differences only causes destructive division.
The call for reunification of the Korean Peninsula brought to mind the divide I felt throughout my life between the Korean and American halves of my identity.
This project is an effort to find what connects us rather than divides us.
