Ph.D Positions in CS/CE at Arizona State University

Prof. Jia Zou (https://sites.google.com/view/jiazou-web/home) at Computer Science and Engineering in Arizona State University (ASU) is looking for Ph.D students to join her research group starting in Fall 2022. Students will have opportunities to work closely with Prof. Jia Zou in designing and building novel distributed systems that provide both high performance and high productivity to the development and deployment of the most cutting-edge applications, such as machine learning, interactive analytics, internet of things. Students will be offered full financial support and funding for traveling to conferences.

Prof. Jia Zou entered the distributed systems research ten years ago as a researcher in IBM Research. Through her extensive experience in industry and academia, she has grasped how to identify and pursue high value research problems, and how to lead a team to attack these problems with creative design, iterative development, solid experiments, and effective team communication and management skills.

In recent years, Prof. Jia Zou has a focus on distributed systems for Big Data management and machine learning. Her recent publications include: two full papers published in VLDB 2021; two full papers published in VLDB 2019 with one awarded the Best Paper Honorable Mention Award and SIGMOD Research Highlight Award; and three full papers published in SIGMOD 2018, VLDB 2015, VLDB 2014 respectively; among other papers published in ICDM, ICDCS, ICPP, GLOBECOMM, ICEBE and so on. Her research works have also been granted ten U.S. patents.

Prof. Jia Zou's research has been supported by National Science Fundation, IBM, Amazon, and Google. She won a prestigious NSF CAREER Award in 2022, and an IBM Academic Award in 2021.
