Our research pioneers the use of strain engineering to precisely manipulate the quantum state of materials. By accessing the quantum regime of ferroelectric phase transition, we correlates ferroelectric order with lattice strain responses, and reveal a significant deviation from classical theory near quantum critical point.

The pairing mechanism for high Tc superconductivity in cuprates remains a central question. In this work, we tackle a simpler 1D cuprate system, which is theoretically exact solvable. By studying the dynamics of fractionalized electron excitations, known as spinons, we provide a quantitative measure of the attractive electron-electron interaction, a candidate for forming the Cooper pairs in 2D cuprates.

A chiral magnetic structure can preferentially scatter X-ray with selected helicity. By taking advantage of this property, we identified a macroscopic magnetic chirality in NdNiO3. This noncollinear, helical magnetic structure hints a previously unobserved multiferroic ground state that originated from a spin disproportionated state (where the neighboring Ni atom have different moments), a new mechanism for coupled magnetic and ferroelectric order in complex materials.
