My lab studies virus-host interaction, viral oncology, and antiviral immunity. We work at the interface of virology, immunology, oncology, genetics, cellular and molecular biology. We identify novel epigenetic and epitranscriptional regulators that control viral evasion and antiviral immune response, particularly for HIV, herpesviruses (EBV, KSHV, HSV-1), HPV, emerging and re-emerging viruses (SARS-CoV-2, influenza, zika), by using modern functional genomic (RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9) and quantitative proteomic (MS, PLATO) approaches. We further dissect the mechanistic functions of these key host regulators using classic cell and/or animal models of viral infection. Newly developed small-molecule compounds targeting epigenetic and epitranscriptional regulators are investigated as the next-generation antiviral reagents and/or immune modulators.
