I am JF, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of the Philippines School of Economics.
My primary field is macroeconomics with particular interests in monetary economics, macro-finance, and development economics.
For my dissertation, I try to figure out why aggregate consumption is relatively smoother than output in the Philippines compared to a typical developing economy characterized by having excessively volatile consumption.Â
Is consumption behavior in the Philippines less volatile than output? What could explain why Philippine consumption behavior differs from the consumption behavior of a typical emerging market economy? How does Philippine household consumption respond to changes in income? How is the dynamics of Philippine household consumption behavior characterized? What could be the macroeconomic implications of micro-level Philippine consumption behavior? How could we modify the emerging market real business cycle model to accommodate Philippine consumption dynamics and to match its empirical macroeconomic moments? These are the questions that I study.
