Version 2.5 brought support for USB 2.0 devices, which expanded the number of USB devices supported at native speed, including support for built-in iSight USB webcams. The amount of video RAM allocated to the guest OS was made adjustable, up to 32MB. Full featured CD/DVD drives arrived in this version, which allowed the user to burn disks directly in the virtual environment, and play any copy-protected CD or DVD as one would in Mac OS X. In addition, a shared clipboard and drag-drop support between Mac OS X and the guest OS was implemented. This version brought the ability for users with a Windows XP installation to upgrade to Windows Vista from within the VM environment.[6] A new feature known as Coherence was added, which removed the Windows chrome, desktop, and the virtualization frames to create a more seamless desktop environment between Windows and Mac OS X applications. This version also allowed users to boot their existing Boot Camp Windows XP partitions, which eliminated the need to have multiple Windows installations on their Mac. A tool called Parallels Transporter was included to allow users to migrate their Windows PC, or existing VMware or Virtual PC VMs to Parallels Desktop for Mac.

Also included are usability features such as the ability to share Windows files by dragging them directly to a Mac application in the Mac Dock. Windows can now also automatically start in the background when a user opens a Windows application on the Mac desktop. Version 4.0 drew criticism for problems upgrading from Version 3.0 shortly after its initial release.[27] Build 3810 also addresses installation and upgrade issues previously experienced with Version 4.0 and introduces the option to enroll in the company's new Customer Experience Program, which lets customers provide information about their preferences and user priorities.

Currently our users had Parallels Desktop XP vms. Our Windows support team admin'd the VM's in the same way as our physical PCs - they are imaged, named, bound and heavily managed via SMS and group policy. Furthermore, over the years, we'd become a 'diverse' culture of many versions of parallels desktop. And as the role of the mac users changed in our environment, so did their need for parallels. Long story short, we didn't see an easy/simple way of providing this update.

I had the same issue, as Stephan, with installing Ubuntu 22.04 on a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) M1 Pro with 32 GB RAM. I had the Apple store version 1.7.x (I think it was 1.7.2). Per the advice in the accepted solution above, I removed Parallels from my machine, logged into my parallels.com account, and re-installed parallels Version 17.1.2 (51548)) after downloading and activating the new install, I followed the advice given above accepted solution and Ubuntu 22.04 is now running as per the accepted solution answer.

UPDATE 5/4/2022Based on a support email I received from parallels.com, the Apple store version I had installed was parallels desktop and is not the same as the parallel Pro version I purchased on the parallels.com web site. I was sent the following link for future information, but in a nut shell, I do believe that parallels pro was required in my case.

This means you can view the Windows desktop within its own window floating on the Mac desktop, expand Windows to full-screen size so that it hides the Mac desktop altogether, or even shrink Windows down to a small preview that sits in a corner on the Mac desktop so that you can keep an eye on the Windows side of things while working in other Mac apps.

One new feature that will stand out straight away, though, is the redesigned interface, with windows and dialogue boxes in Parallels Desktop 19 now adopting the curved lines and candy colors that Apple has been using in the macOS in recent years. The app even gets a new desktop icon.

I just installed parallels 18 with windows 11 on my Mac Air M1 (2020) 8GB 512GB. I allocated 4 CPUs and 4g RAM to VM. And I downloaded ArcGIS pro and installed on windows. I tried installing the software on Mac document file, on local disk(C:) and reinstallation, and rebooting, but the ArcGIS pro just would not open. There is no task on task manager when I click the ArcGIS pro icon after installation. I also downloaded the arm64 6.0.8 runtime windows desktop. I don't know what is the issue. Can someone help?

I have the same issue.

Esri support recommended installing an older version of parallels,

However, legacy downloads for Parallels stops at v15 (can't find 16 or 17), and 15 does not work on the latest mac OS (monterey).

So in order to try an older version of parallels, one would also have to downgrade their mac OS to big sur. this may work for you on your 2020 device, but big sur does not work on macbook pro M1/M2 2021 and newer.

 a knotted mess.

Any one know where to get Parallels 17?

Now I switched to a new Macbook Pro with Apple M1 cpu which has an ARM64 architecture. So I'm now on Windows 11 ARM version. Cisco is the only VPN client (and those on virtual desktops) which is working in this constellation. I tried the 32 and 64 bit versions of the current windows FortiClients, none is working.

Some have mentioned the online option, but is that available for all Turbo Tax products? E.g., I use Home and Business desktop for Mac, and it's not clear to me from Turbo Tax's website whether that's available online. And even if it were available, is the functionality the same?

Parallels Desktop for Mac is desktop virtualization software that lets you run Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Google Chrome operating systems and apps on an Apple Mac computer. The program enables the guest OS to be seamlessly integrated into macOS, replicating native OS performance.

The $20 Parallels iOS app from the Apple App Store lets you access both Mac OS X and Windows VMs, as well as the underlying Mac OS X, from an iPad or iPhone. The previous Parallels app for iOS did that just for Windows VMs. Of course, virtual desktop clients for running Mac OS X on iOS are easy to find, and there are good free ones, so the main value of Parallels' enhanced iOS app is the unified virtual desktop. Plus, the iOS app works with both Parallels Desktop 6 and 7, so you don't need an upgrade to Parallels Desktop 7 to take advantage of it.

Previous editions of Parallels let you set up Mac OS X Server VMs, but not VMs of the desktop OS. Apple removed its restriction against desktop OS VMs in Lion (you're permitted to run two Lion VMs on your Mac), and Parallels quickly enabled that capability in Desktop 7. (Note: You still can't create VMs of previous Mac OS X desktop versions, as Apple hasn't changed the licensing terms for Snow Leopard or earlier versions to allow it.)

Parallels Desktops functions like any other applications on your Mac OS X. When it is running, you can witness an entire Windows desktop on your Mac within a Window (you can also fully screen your applications).

Parallels are enormously multipurpose, and that is since parallels involve a dual feature. It can allow you to use Windows 11 or 10 on a typical virtual device while also letting you use only the Windows software package you desire.

The common difference in the user's experience is the fact that Parallel desktops let you switch from the Mac operating system to another OS promptly. On the other hand, BootCamp forces you to select from one OS to another when powering on your computer.

Parallels is well-known virtualization software that allows Windows apps and desktops to be used on Mac machines. Apple used to have its own Boot Camp solution, but Boot Camp is not available on Apple silicon Macs, leaving virtualization software as the only option for Mac owners who need to access Windows content.

By default, Windows 11 is quarantined within its own desktop, and all apps that run in Windows reside in that partitioned-off space. The nice thing about this is that when running Parallels in full-screen mode, you can use swipe gestures to switch between macOS and Windows environments.

Then, the Name and Location window will appear. Name your virtual machine, and select the location of the virtual machine. Check Create alias on Mac desktop if you want to create an alias on the desktop. Check Customize settings before installation. Then, click Create be457b7860
