It has been a busy time in my neck of the woods!
I celebrated Pride month in style, first with a reading of my story "Foreign Body" at the Necksnap Magazine issue 1 launch event. I'm so grateful to Flyleaf Books for hosting, and grateful to everyone who came out to listen to all of us read and support this new Durham-based horror mag! We are currently reading for issue 2, and I'm sure it's going to be a banger!
Then, I joined Michael G. Williams and Jon Carroll Thomas for "Rainbow in the Dark," a panel on queer horror and a celebration of the release of Michael's book Children of Solitude. It's a wonderful read, and you should check out my review if you are considering it!
Coming in October, I'll be joining a host of other folks from the Carolina chapter of HWA for a "Heart of Halloween" reading at Moon Dog Meadery in Durham! It will be October 18, starting at 7:00pm, with an official event page coming soon. I plan to read from the soon-to-be-published "Cut-a-Skin, Outside-In," and plenty of folks will have their books on sale. Hope to see you there!
My short story, "The House of Coiled Earth," featured in Neon Hemlock's amazing anthology The Crawling Moon: Queer Tales of Inescapable Dread, has just been shortlisted for Brave New Weird volume 3.
I am so grateful to the wonderful editors at Tenebrous Press for this fantastic award. I am in incredible company, and regardless of the final winners, the next volume of Brave New Weird is going to be mindblowing.
Necksnap Magazine has just closed submissions for Issue 1, and I am delighted to announce that I am hopping on board as a first reader. I'll also be assisting with fiction edits. You can find staff information on the Necksnap website, and keep your eyes peeled for more details about the release of Issue 1!
I am so excited to have my first reading coming up this March! I'll be at Larema Coffee shop in Wilson, NC, Saturday, March 15 at 7:00pm.
I'm so happy to see Necksnap Magazine Issue 0 out in the world, both because it features my body horror flash fiction piece, "Foreign Body," but also because I love to see the horror community growing. And from my own backyard, no less! Huge thank you to the incredibly kind EIC John Hanley for his wonderful work putting this issue together and taking a chance on my incredibly weird, gross piece.
I'm excited to see what Necksnap has in store next!
If you were looking for ways to support folks impacted by the hurricane and flooding in Western North Carolina, I am a contributing author in the charity anthology There's a Haint in That There Holler from Laughing Man House. With 42 contributors, it's a great way to extend the spooky season while helping out people who really need it!
All profits will go toward the following causes:
WNC Regional Livestock Center helping farmers & animals affected by the flooding.
Hearts with Hands supplying food and essentials to Buncombe county shelters.
Don't Forget the Backroads campaign to aid Yancey County & Surrounding areas.
Black Trans Collective to help black trans people impacted by the hurricane.
I am thrilled to announce that I will have a new piece out in Issue 0 of Necksnap Magazine! "Foreign Body" is a flash body horror piece that means a great deal to me, and I'm so happy I can help inaugurate a new horror mag that hails from my hometown of Durham, NC!
The issue will go live on the magazine website before the end of October.
I can't believe it's here! The Crawling Moon: Queer Tales of Insatiable Dread is here at last, and it's even more beautiful than all of the preview photos suggested. You can purchase a copy at the link, as well as check out the full, incredible table of contents, which includes amazing writers such as Suzan Palumbo, Bendi Barrett, M.L. Krishnan, Hailey Piper, Caitlin Starling, E. Catherine Tobler, and others!
I am thrilled to announce that you'll soon be able to read, "The Conjurings of Elderly Widows," a cosmic horror short story about a pair of curmudgeonly old ladies in over their heads, in Cosmic Horror Monthly. If you have not read any of their excellent offerings before, now is a great time to take a peek. Check out the selections they offer for free, and consider subscribing.
Watch this space for updates on the issue number.
It is surreal to be announcing that my short cosmic horror story, "The House of Coiled Earth" will be featured in the forthcoming collection The Crawling Moon: Queer Tales of Inescapable Dread, from Neon Hemlock Press. Coming in February! [Preorder here.]
From Neon Hemlock:
The Crawling Moon: Queer Tales of Inescapable Dread is an anthology of gothic depravity, horror & perversion. It contains queer horrors both psychological and supernatural, gory and cerebral.
And more importantly, we're hoping it will scandalize you. It features a cover by Cronan Kobylak, interior illustrations by Matthew Spencer, and a story game by Maxwell Lander. If we’re lucky, it will also contain some unnerving interior design work by Jordan Shiveley.
