Jerry Heymans uses images cut from old books as a starting point. In isolating a fragment of the original picture, he makes it unrecognizable, pushing it toward abstraction. 

He then deranges the image further with use of ink, resulting in shapes and structures with an organic feel. Despite hints to modernity by graphic elements that are sometimes allowed or even added, the timelessness of the resulting piece remains key.
