Research Objective
Foresight is central to predictions regarding how firms obtain competitive positions, yet the academic literature is fairly brief in its depiction of the antecedents of foresight. My current projects explore the relationship of knowledge accumulation, cognition, and economic environments to firm-level strategy. One desired outcome is that by better understanding the behavioral elements of strategizing, scholars can begin to offer guidance that will improve foresight. This work parallels attempts in forecasting more generally, however, foresight is much more than numerical forecasting. The strategist must consider the dynamism of the environment around them and anticipate positions as they might be in the future, rather than as they are at present.
