Professional Experience
I am an Full Professor of Finance at IESEG School of Management (Rue de la Digue, 3 - 59000 Lille, France) where I am Deputy Academic Director in charge of the PGE Master Cycle (classic master degree and apprenticeship master degree). Before that, I was Academic Director of the Apprenticeship Master in Financial Institutions: Risk, Compliance and Data Analytics on the Paris campus, which I created in 2019 in partnership with big institutions such as Cofidis and BNP Paribas.
I am also a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Freedom and Prosperity Center (https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/expert/jeremie-bertrand)
Before joining IESEG School of Management, I was a researcher with the Diversity and Inclusion Chair (formerly Open Leadership for Diversity and Inclusion) at EDHEC Business School (2018-2019). I was also a Lecturer for the University of Aberdeen (UK – 2018-2019), for which I developed an online course on Banking Regulation. Before that, I was a professor-researcher at the ISA Lille engineering school (now Junia), from 2013-2018.
Teaching Experience
In terms of teaching experience, I actually teach ERP Simulation (Msc - course coordinator). In the past, I also used to teach Financial Instruments and Technology (BA3), Business Game (Msc), Corporate Finance (Bsc), Econometric of Banking (Msc – course coordinator), Financial Regulation (Bsc), Gender and Leadership (Msc). I've also developed a course on Scientific Reasoning in which I've incorporated innovative teaching techniques such as Sketchnote as a tool for scientific reasoning (for which I've developed a Case Study, with my colleagues) or the use of charisma techniques as a pitching tool. Finally, I also teach to colleagues Understanding the Impact of Neurodiversity on Higher Education, where I explain what are the different neurodiversities and how we can adapt our courses or pedagogical environment to them.
As part of the development of this master's degree, I set up the DataViz Challenge, in partnership with Cofidis Group, which consists of a Data Visualisation challenge based on a theme and data provided by our partner.
Education
In terms of studies, I have an Engineering Diploma specializing in Agroeconomics and Management, with a Finance option, from ISA Lille - Junia, followed by a Research Master 2 in Banking and Finance Advanced Program, with honors, from the University of Lille - Faculty of Finance, Banking and Accounting. I successfully defended my PhD in Management Science on the theme of ‘Nature and management of information: impact on relationship lending’ under the supervision of Prof. Statnik at the University of Lille and Skema Business School, in May 2017. Finally, I defended my Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in Management Sciences at Université de Strasbourg under the supervision of Pr. Laurent Weill on the theme of ‘Nature and management of information: from discouragement to credit conditions’ in May 2022.
Research
My research interests include, but are not limited to, the determinants and the benefits of developing a relationship between a bank and its customers (relationship lending), the determinants of borrower discouragement, the consequences of trust in banks, discrimination in the credit market and women access to credit, and the impact of culture and individual psychology on financial decisions.
In recent years, I have published in international ABS/CNRS ranked journals such as Economic Inquiry, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the Journal of Financial Services Research, the Journal of Banking and Finance, Economic Modelling, Economic Letters and the International Review of Law and Economics.
