Artist Biography:

Jennifer McKenzie is a mixed-media artist and K-college educator of 22+ years, and she currently lives in the Siuslaw National Forest in Florence, Oregon. She is a Doctor of Education EdD, a Fulbrighter, a global educator and traveler, and a champion of innovation and equity in education. Her investigation of nature is translated through watercolor, ink, acrylic, stitching, embroidery and beadwork.

Artist Statement:

I create nature inspired and nature infused mixed media artwork celebrating the interconnectedness and beauty of the living world. My work is inspired by global landscapes as well as home, which is currently the Siuslaw National Forest and coastal Oregon.

Animal Advocate

I am at peace and feel most aligned with the universe when immersed in nature! My family loves paddleboarding, swimming, hiking and hunting for agates at the beach. We are super fortunate to live in the Siuslaw National Forest with infinite access to Oregon's State Parks.

I create nature inspired, sometimes abstract, mixed-media artwork in my spare time. I love working with textiles, embroidery, dyes, inks and watercolor. I like to experiment with plant-based dyes created from my own yard. I also keep an art journal when I travel to document my adventures.

I LOVE collaborating with our local Oregon Coast Humane Society for school curricular and service-learning purposes, and my family has also adopted puppies Orion (this cutie above) and Jasper as well as Bloom and Piper, two sweet kitties from the shelter.
