Art Process:
I pay close attention to small details when creating traditional art.
One of the key components I pay attention to make it realistic and pleasing to the eye is lighting and shadows.
The hues I chose were determined by the tone that best displays the artwork
2007— I started to be fascinated by colors at a very young age. It felt like I already knew back then that I was meant to create art. I enjoyed scribbling and drawing whatever illustrations that I saw in my books. I joined my first drawing competition when I was six years old.
2008-2012— I explored my love for art during this time. Aside from filling the pages of my sketchbooks with art, I enjoyed joining numerous art contests in our school too. Those contests taught me to do art passionately rather than competitively. Thus, my hobby of making art developed into a passion, and eventually, I fell in love with its complexity and beauty. Growing up, I lacked self-confidence and preferred to be alone. However, art acted like a friend that never leaves me and a voice that expresses my thoughts.
2017— Slowly, I was encouraged to share my talent with larger audiences. I began developing my social media platforms and used them to publish all my artwork and upload time-lapse videos of me creating art. In the same year, I also began taking art commissions, specializing in botanical illustrations and portrait commissions.
2018-2022— Gone are the days when I had plenty of spare time to do art. However, every time I had free time, I was able to balance my schoolwork and my artistic endeavors. I practice my skills even more and step beyond my comfort zone. Art commissions allowed me to invest in my art career, save some money for my allowance, and buy things for my family. I make sure to put a piece of my heart into every piece of art I create. :)
What medium do you use in making your artwork?
I create my art pieces depending on the canvas I use and also depending on my mood. I use acrylic, gouache, watercolor, and oil paints. In doing portraits, I usually use graphite, charcoal, and colored pencils, or pens and markers.
Who influenced you to become an artist?
My parents, especially my dada influenced me to become the person I am today. I remember admiring one of his drawings placed on the wall in his room when I was a kid, and as time went on, I wanted to make my parents even more proud by showing them my own drawings.
What are your inspirations for doing your artwork?
Since I always find art to be so admirable and fascinating, it is the art itself that keeps me inspired to create my own works of art. Whenever I add color to something, I feel as though it comes to life, which makes me feel more alive. My inexplicable passion for using my ideas and creativity to do what I love is fueled by colors and hues. Whenever I do art, I let my pens and brushes flow with my imagination.
How do you define art?
Art is my safe haven, my comfort zone, and has a special connection to my life. The heart, soul, and passion I put into each piece of art that I create are hidden behind the vibrant colors that burst through the canvas and papers. It is comparable to the blood that flows through my veins, providing me with oxygen and the drive to live.
How do you make your artwork?
My mood and interests influence the work I create. Every time I draw, I get my supplies ready, brainstorm ideas, and mix the colors I wish to use in my creations. Furthermore, every time I want to sketch or paint, I make sure that my body and mind are in the best possible condition to prevent art block, weariness, and backaches.
When and how did you discover this talent/skill?
I recall having pictures taken when I was a young child where my sister and I were drawing on a blackboard. Then, in kindergarten, my teacher would usually allow us time to draw what she drew on the board. My teacher noticed how I imitated her drawings well and saw potential in me.
How did art help you grow?
I've discovered that doing art is an excellent instrument to get to know oneself. Art helped me gain confidence and helped me lessen my asocial disposition. It also provided me with a platform to express myself through my artwork and produce masterpieces with significant meaning and value. Every person I meet has a story, just like every work of art. I've therefore come to respect people for who they are, regardless of their personal stories, experiences, or circumstances.
What was the best piece of art you've created so far?
All the artworks I made have great personal significance for me. Thus, they are all among my favorites. I value them equally and what matters to me is that I am able to perceive their importance and meaning. It becomes a strong art in that sense. Nevertheless, as a sentimental person, the unforgettable pieces I created so far were those of commissioned paintings/portraits of their departed loved ones—it makes the artwork more precious, nostalgic, and reminiscent of a beautiful soul, all at once.
