Jen is an artist, writer, entrepreneur, and, in what she describes as her most challenging role yet, a homeschool mom to four boys. Over the last twenty years, she has both taught and learned a great deal from her neurodivergent children. Her family of six navigates a complex web of challenges, including ADHD, sensory processing disorder, dyslexia, autism, learning disabilities in written expression, difficulties with math, and a mix of depression, anxiety, ODD, GAD, and mood disorders.
In her dynamic, happy, loud, and creative household, Jen aims for everyone to thrive—not just survive—amidst the chaos. She has successfully homeschooled three of her sons from preschool through high school, all of whom have been accepted into college programs that align with their unique strengths and interests. Her educational approach has led one son toward graduating college with a double major in Psychology and Educational Studies, and a minor in Theater, another pursuing technical design in Theater at App State, and a third about to embark on an Engineering degree. The youngest, after a stint in a small private school, has returned to homeschooling for high school.
Throughout her homeschooling journey, Jen has been an integral part of various co-ops, teaching art and science across Tennessee and North Carolina, and offering unwavering support to other moms through groups in both states. Her commitment to spreading encouragement, hope, and joy extends beyond her immediate family to the broader community through Ad Gaudium, a small business she co-founded with two other mothers of special needs children.
Jen shares a glimpse into her world of art: "I carry my sketchpad, traveling palette, waterbrushes, and pens wherever I go, finding solace and creativity in the moments in between. Whether waiting or simply pausing, I'm often sketching, painting, or writing, embracing the transient beauty of life through my art."
"Nature is where I find peace, beauty, and joy. I cherish bringing my family into the embrace of the outdoors through hikes and day trips, connecting us to the world's simple wonders."
