Lab Overview

SKILLab advances knowledge-driven machine learning by integrating structured knowledge (e.g., knowledge graphs, domain expertise, prior context) with large-scale data and modern AI systems. Our goal is to develop transparent, reliable, and impactful AI that not only learns from data, but also reasons with knowledge.

We align our work with San José State University's values of student success, diversity, and societal impact, fostering a collaborative environment where research and innovation contribute to real-world communities and partners.

How the lab works

SKILLab is a team-based research lab that emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional research practices. Students contribute through defined roles and collaborative workflows, developing skills in problem framing, reproducibility, communication, and ethical AI development.
