probably about $20 per tape, depending on length.
probably about $20 per tape, depending on length.
Around $2 per photo,
Additional photoshop work to restore the photo $40 per hour.
Minimum - your files are delivered on a portable hard drive, which you can pick up at my house when you pick up your tapes. (you can supply one OR ill purchase one for you) I also recommend multiple copies of this drive whether you make them OR if you want me to I will.
Uploaded to my google drive (I will store it for three months, but you should download it to your own personal drive asap) $3 per tape, photos no charge
Upload to youtube or cloud storage account of your choice if you supply the password. $3 per tape (dropbox.com is also a good storage location)
DVD burned- (price pending) not highly recommended, but I can probably do it.
Web site - Create a basic web site to help you display and share your memories using the google account of your choice (or I will create a new one, and hand off the password to you when it is complete)
Note: My rates are based on approximately $40 an hour for my experience and expertise. If I can do other work while your tapes are encoding, I will not charge you for that time, but remember that there is often additional time spent in keeping things organized and labeled and files maintained, rewinding/cleaning tapes, minor editing if needed.
Best practices are to store your digital archives in 3 locations. 1. your computer hard drive 2. an offsite portable hard drive backup (friends or parents home, well labeled and organized 3. One copy in the cloud like google drive or dropbox.com or youtube
At the moment of writing this, youtube is one of the best ways to share and preserve your old videos. This may not always be the case. This will require you to take the additional step of uploading your finished videos to youtube and mark them clearly (or I can do it for you.) You have the choice of what to do with your youtube videos. You can make them:
PUBLIC (everyone can watch them)
UNLISTED (anyone with the link can watch them, but they aren't listed publically anywhere) - This is the one I recommend - I also recommend creating a free web site at sites.google.com its very easy and will help you be able to more easily share your content
PRIVATE (only you can watch them and only if you are logged into your youtube account, you can also choose to allow individuals with a google account individual access)
The best thing you can do is make many digital copies and spread them to family and friends well-labeled.
family.jeffstoltzfus.com - my archives, they are a bit messy, but the more time you spend on it the more it could be organized and displayed nicer. This shows a variety of links to folders full of photos, videos transfered from 8mm film movies and 8mm video tapes and some from VHS. This site was created with the very basic and free [sites.google.com] I can do something nicer if needed, but this basic design is really easy to set up, free, and easy for you to take control of once Im done setting it up.
