With a background in computer programming and game design, building things is central to my being. Whether I'm making tools for myself, games for others, or anything in between, I feel right at home. I enjoy exploring in all aspects of my skills, including learning about new tools in my free time, like OpenGL and Blender. As a programmer, I am constantly searching for new ways to push my methodical mind to new limits. Similarly, the game designer inside me seeks to expand and exercise the bounds of my creativity.
I've had the pleasure of getting to wear many hats while part of the various teams I've worked with. Most recently, I jumped in as a UI Engineer at Bit Fry Game Studios, but I wore the unofficial hats of producer, platform engineer, technical artist, and more. I enjoy learning new technology, tools, programming languages, and workflows. I'm most at home when working on a complex system, whether that be part of Gameplay, Engine, Audio, UI, or any other part of development.
I last worked at Bit Fry Game Studios as a UI Engineer on Ultimate Rivals: The Court. The dev team there was more than phenomenal and I couldn't be more proud to have had the opportunity to work with them. From the programming side to QA and beyond to the production team, they were all a delight to work with.
Now that the Bit Fry team are all moving on to other projects, my hope is to find another studio where I can build stunning games on a fantastic team. I'm gearing up for whatever comes next and looking forward to writing some killer code.
At Microsoft, I worked on the Minecraft team as a Game Developer. In addition to programming major overhauls to audio systems, I added new gameplay and UI features. I worked closely with 3D and UI artists in implementing new content and polish. I actively developed scripts, documentation, source control training, and workflow improvements for members of our art and audio teams.
At Microsoft and the Minecraft team in particular, I saw how much I have to learn and it excites me for the possibilities ahead. I passionately look forward to wherever the game development industry takes me, whether it be in gameplay, tools, or the plethora of other aspects of game programming. Beyond the work itself, the fun-loving and welcoming atmosphere on the team enabled me to grow as a team member.
Before Microsoft, I worked as a K-12 instructor with ProjectFUN and DigiPen Academy. I am an alumni of DigiPen Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Game Design. I studied at Everett Community College during my final two years of high school and earned an Associates in English and an Endorsement in Digital Illustration.
As an instructor, I have learned much about encouraging and motivating others, as well as detailed clear communication. However, those central teaching skills pale in comparison to my energetic and vibrant passion for gaining and passing on knowledge. I love to explore, find, and share new concepts and techniques.
