Keep in mind that depending on the host you're downloading from and whether you own a premium account or not, there might be serverside limits in place which could prevent JD from simply obeying your settings- and reaching your desired amount of e.g. max. simultaneous downloads.

This means that if you e.g. set JDownloader to use 5 chunks, you might just get 1 in the end.

Also if you're downloading from the Usenet: JDownloader can technically only download with max. 1 chunk via Usenet!

[Advanced & Headless users] How to backup- and restore your JDownloader configuration via configuration folder backup (settings, accounts, downloadlist etc.)?

Alternative: How to backup your config even if JDownloader doesn't start at all e.g. due to a broken installation.

I'm archiving videos and am using a stream detector to add into urls to jdownloader. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of link grabber. For example, why would an mp4 list in the download section but says "file not found"? TYIA

By default, JDownloader is set up to automatically extract all commonly compressed file types, including zip, rar, and 7zip. The software saves these extracted files in a folder created for each download. But still, you can also manually configure the extraction settings based on your preferences.

JDownloader for flash and mp4 online , have the disadvantage that must wait for watch from the midle to the end of video for downloading but cant have them all , its a promise alternative of flash plugin browser , must set it for stream isolation for security, so in settings\connection manager\ set socks4 or socks5 ? and host/port ______? and username\pasword ?

EDIT: If you install jdownloader using ther jdownloader ppa, jdownloader first tries to update itself to the newest version. You get more information about what's going on if you start jdownloader from the command line using jdownloader -v.

I myself didn't get the PPA version to run on my own PC (Ubuntu 10.04), so it seems to be a bug (jdownloader wasn't able to update itself). I recommend installing JDownloader manually, by downloading the LInux installation file from JDownloader's download page.

Yeah I installed first via Community Application, it did not work also the connection refused. I did not change any settings just set additional the values for config and output. After that I uninstalled and installed it again with other ports etc still no connection. At last i used the commands in the Readme in github but same error

Most of these methods will work, but if you have already started downloading multiple videos, editing link grabber wont help: here's a quick workaround; first, place your cursor on downloads tab, press control A, mark all files, press and hold control key while left clicking on one of the plus signs (this should drop down all folders) then go to the bottom screen; you'll find a search box to find files jdownloader is handling, type one of the other existing formats you don't want: e.g (m4a) it should highlight everything that contains that file type, move cursor back to the downloads tab, left click on any of the files, press control A again then right click on any of the highlighted files: this should bring out some options, next, select disable, there you go.. it should stop downloading that file type now. Repeat for others file types as needed and leave only the file type you want.

In settings, there is a "Linkgrabber Filter" on the left side(way below General; Reconnect;etc..) and it is a filter out, so if you need only something specific you need to negate your target search.

I think ffmpeg may have been installed via the Q4OS welcome screen / Install Proprietary Codecs or possibly during one of the Desktop Profilers I tried: I originally tried the Full feature Desktop but it failed (even after waiting for a substantial time between attempts, as advised), a few times..., then I successfully ran the Basic Q4OS Desktop which probably suits me better anyway. I'm guessing how ffmpeg came to be installed because I know I didn't directly install it myself until I had issues with jdownloader. I;m guessin 'cos I'm a Q4OS noob, maybe one of you more seasoned users can enlighten me?

Note: as jdownloader has the dependency on ffmpeg (to convert the video when a different variant is chosen to download), I always made sure that ffmpeg was installed prior to installing jdownloader... kinda common sense.

I have one last method to try which is to install JDownloader 2 Adware-free Setup (JDownloader2Setup_unix_nojre.sh) from the offical jdownloader.org/jdownloader2 download page (using the linux variant of course). I'll update this entry with the results.

Turns out it was the simplest of issues... the dialogue was not being displayed comletely so I couldnt see the option to click on a button to install ffmpeg.

If you look at the two attachments on the original post the jdownloader2-ffmpeg-missing-dialogue-cropped.png image shows how the dialogue presented to me and the jdownloader2-ffmpeg-missing-dialogue.png shows how it should have looked.

I ran through it so many times, not being able to see where to click until for some reason I decided to tro to move the dialogue and low and behold it "popped out" so I could see the button.

I have had my setup on windows for a long time now.. and got it so that I download straight to my NAS using jdownloader to skip having to transfer files, and it works perfectly, and have been using it this way ever since I built my NAS about a year ago. I am now trying to configure the same setup in ubuntu 16.04 mainly just because I want to learn more in linux and to have a backup for when windows breaks, as let's face it it's more likely to happen than not, lol.

So far I backed up settings from jdownloader2 from my windows install, installed jdownloader 2 to ubuntu and restored settings from file... piece of cake. Trouble is I cannot find the way of setting my NAS as the download default. I have tried so far:-

I cannot work out where the problem lies. I can access my freenas server perfectly through the file browser and the web browser with no problems. I just can't set it as my default location in jdownloader and it's annoying to say the least... it just comes up saying "folder does not exist and do I want to create it" or invalid directory.

Have you tried allowing it through your firewall then? Just go to your control panel>Security>Allow a program through the firewall. Though do note that if Network Lock is set to use Windows Firewall, it'll change the settings when you enable/disable.

As I can see on the file, Firefox is showing up directly HTTP requests without processing them. Make sure extensions such as Live HTTP Requests are not installed. Try also to run Firefox on safe mode.Make sure no about:config setting is user defined.Check your computer for malware, try Firefox Portable to see if your profile is corrupted and check your JDownloader settings. It is difficult to locate an issue of two different programs in combination, but I have installed JDownloader and doesn't report these problems.Another question: have you installed FlashGot when asked for after installing JDownloader? Maybe FlashGot combinated with JDownloader is the source of the problem.

Use the command jdownloader to start JDownloader. When you have just installed JDownloader, this will run the update tool to download some required files for JDownloader, else this will start JDownloader directly.

By default jdownloader will create a subdirectory for each file you download in your destination folder. To stop this behaviour go to Settings > Packagiser and untick the predefined rules as desired.

Preferences for individual sites can be found by going to Settings > Plugins. For example, by changing settings on the youtube.com plugin you could tell jdownloader to only download the audio from YouTube links.

Minimize to tray is broken on Linux. You will run in problems like a little stray window appearing. Disable the feature altogether just to not accidentally run into it. For that, just unplug the checkbox in the settings.

Here are some nifty tips (shared with me at The Portable Freeware Collection by Userfriendly on my thread for JDownloader Portable) for those who use JDownloader and would like to disable those annoying banners and the like, etc. To turn on/off these settings, you can find these options in advanced settings.

Click the Next button in order to uninstall the application. The system will begin the uninstall process and ask you if you want to keep the JDownloader settings and links saved on your system. Select the required option after which the downloading tool will be removed from your system. ff782bc1db
