Neighbors: Team of five JDHS students wins Tsunami Bowl | Juneau EmpireFive students from Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé won the Tsunami Bowl, a regional ocean science academic competition March 22-24 that is part of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB).

🌊 This team surged to first place like an unstoppable wave! Huge congratulations to the Tsunami Bowl winning team from Juneau-Douglas High School! 🏆 Pictured (not in order): Samuel Lagerquist, Ainsely Mallott, Alexander Rehfeldt, Owen Rumsey, Ryan Song, and Coach Shannon Easterly. The 2025 Tsunami Bowl was hosted in person by the UAF College of Fisheries & Ocean Sciences from February 27 to March 2. Winning teams from regional competitions (happening now!) advance to the virtual NOSB National Finals Competition on May 17-18! This year’s theme? “Sounding the Depths: Understanding Ocean Acoustics.” The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB), a program of the Center for Ocean Leadership NSF NCAR & UCAR, is a high school academic competition that expands ocean science education, prepares students for STEM careers, and fosters environmental stewardship.
