Professor Jian-Chun Peng (M’04, SM'16) is the Dean of the Dept. of Automation Science and Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China, and Head of Smart Grid Research Institute of Shenzhen University. He has also worked for Kstar Science & Technology Corporation Limited as an Independent Director since Dec. 2013. Prior to joining Shenzhen University in 2008, he was the Vice Dean of the College of Electrical and Information Engineering at Hunan University, Changsha China since 1998, where he became a professor in 2001. He was a postdoctor from November 2002 to November 2003 at Arizona State University, Tempe US, and a visiting professor from May 2006 to August 2006 at Brunel University, London UK. Professor Peng's research interests include Power System Operation and Economics, DC-AC Interconnected System Control, Power Electronics and Renewable Energy, Power Quality Analysis and Control.
Professor Peng has been a contractor with State Grid Company (SGC) since 1998, and also with China Southern Power Grid (CSPG) since 2008. As a principle investigator, he has been responsible for over 10 national/provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, over 20 SGC&CSPG projects, 4 Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Committee projects. At the same time, he has finished 8 industrial R&D and consulting projects in power system optimal operation and economics, load frequency control, state estimation and MTDC grid control. He developed a Power Network Line Loss Management System for Huai-hua Electric Power Company, Risk and Reliability Analysis System for Sanmenxia Electric Power Company, Reactive Power and Voltage Control System for Hunan Electric Power Company, Short-term Load Forecasting System for Shenzhen Electric Power Company, and so on. He has won over 15 prizes for the outstanding work he dedicated, including the Science and Technology awards granted by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China, Hunan Provincial Government and Hunan Electric Power Company, respectively. He established a research team of 15 people at Shenzhen University for Smart Grid to provide research support from Shenzhen Governor, CSPG and SGC, etc.
Professor Peng received the B.Eng. and M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Chongqing University, Chongqing China in 1986 and 1989 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in control science and engineering from Hunan University, Changsha China in 1998. He has published over 170 journal papers, and received over $6 million in research grants. Professor Peng has supervised 11 PhD students and over 100 Master students. His professional experiences are as follows:
