Food grade aluminium, epoxy putty
40 x 32 cm
In Another World is an experimental piece from the same series as Tingkap Umah, exploring the idea of windows through different materials and emotional tones.
This work is constructed using food-grade aluminum containers, the kind typically used to store biscuits, combined with epoxy putty and welding techniques. The surface has been intentionally burned and distressed to create a weathered, fragmented texture that resembles something aged, damaged, and forgotten.
While it keeps the recognizable form of a louvered window, In Another World delivers a very different emotional impression. The use of cold metallic materials removes any sense of warmth or domestic comfort. Instead, the window feels industrial, sterile, and distant. This shift in material changes the viewer’s relationship to the object, inviting new interpretations and associations.
Emerging from the structure are strange, vine-like forms that resemble mechanical tendrils or unidentifiable growths. These elements represent an uncertain future, one that feels cold, mechanical, and disconnected from the natural world. The worn and sagging posture of the aluminum window becomes a quiet metaphor for the tension between old and new, softness and hardness, human life and artificial systems.
In Another World asks what happens when memory is translated through unfamiliar materials. It suggests that a change in surface can lead to a change in meaning, and encourages viewers to reconsider how form and material shape emotional experience.
