Our next online workshop is happening Oct 19 - 22, 2026. The workshop is free to attend and distributed across a range of time zones. Anyone interested in ice-ocean interactions is welcome!
The sessions this year will focus on:
Understanding ice-ocean interaction from lab experiments
Observing ice-ocean interaction
Emerging techniques for ice-ocean interaction
Glacial meltwater in the broader Earth system
The program is now available HERE. It includes more information on how to attend.
The interactions between ice sheets and glaciers and the ocean are key to understanding how these systems will evolve in a changing climate. Drawing together glaciologists and oceanographers, the Joint Commission on Ice-Ocean Interactions (JCIOI) is a joint activity of IAPSO (the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans) and IACS (the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences). The purpose of JCIOI is to enhance connections between researchers and facilitate the understanding, observing, and modeling of ice-ocean interactions, including under ice shelves and at the front of tidewater glaciers.
