JCIOI Commission Charter
The purpose of JCIOI is:
To act as a 'point of contact' for questions related to ice-ocean interactions in earth sciences.
To identify areas of research that are needed to advance the understanding, observing, and modeling of ice-ocean interactions, including under ice shelves, at the front of tidewater glaciers, and at the sea surface in surrounding ice floes as well as to motivate research and development related to these areas through small collaborations, more formal Working Groups, workshops, conference sessions, or other avenues.
To facilitate research that integrates theory and observations of ice-ocean interactions, with a focus on improving their representation in numerical ocean and ice sheet models.
To encourage continuing technological improvements and parameterization developments in relation to observations and models of ice-ocean interactions.
To communicate the latest developments around ice-ocean interactions to the relevant audiences, including scientists, funding bodies, and policy makers, e.g. by coordinating a “special issue” in a journal; reporting on research activities and outcomes; issuing white papers.
