How It Works
ScienceBuzz is open to all 4th and 5th graders interested in science and competition. This club will accommodate 6 teams and 30 kids due to a restricted amount of buzzers. They will be taught Earth & Space, Life Science, Physics, and Chemistry topics for one class, known as the "teaching week". They will be provided resources and materials to look over and study to further their knowledge on the educated topics. The next week they will compete in a buzzer round modeled similarly to the Science Bowl tournament. The round will consist of questions based on the material learned before. We aim to have 8-10 teaching days and 8-10 buzzer round days for the duration of the club. Points will be awarded throughout the weeks based on how well students perform during the buzzer rounds. An end-of-the-year tournament will be conducted in the same format as the Regional Science Bowl consisting of a round-robin, semi-finals, and finals. The winning team will be awarded a prize and will compete against a current middle or high school science bowl team.
