Sustainble Infrastructure Management (SIM) Laboratory
About the research group
The Sustainable Infrastructure Management (SIM) Laboratory was established by Dr. Juyeong Choi at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering with the aim to address emerging issues facing critical infrastructure systems, which spans from aging infrastructure to climate change, sustainability and post-disaster resiliency. Our team pursues interdisciplinary approaches to these challenges while utilizing a broad range of engineering approaches, tools and methodologies (e.g., operational simulation methods (e.g., system dynamics, agent-based modeling, discrete event simulation], optimization methods [e.g., linear programming, genetic algorithm, simulated annealing], statistical analyses). Currently, our team has been dedicating our research efforts towards the following areas:
Infrastructure management and planning in the context of sustainability and disaster risk reduction,
Transportation and construction data analytics,
Infrastructure and building demolition planning,
Infrastructure System-of-Systems, and
Capital rehabilitation planning
About FAMU-FSU College of Engineering
The laboratory is located at the joint college of two separate universities at Tallahassee, Florida: Florida A&M University (FAMU), which was recognized by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering in 2010 for ranking number one as the institution of origin for African Americans earning Doctorates in Engineering, and Florida State University (FSU), which has gained its worldwide recognition for its excellent graduate and research programs. All the team members are from either FAMU or FSU. For more information about our college, please visit the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering website. To join Dr. Choi's research group, interested graduate students should apply to the Civil Engineering graduate program of the school that they prefer (either FAMU or FSU).
